Argentina leaf vegetable prices hold steady despite winter cold

Despite the onset of winter frosts in the Buenos Aires region, most green leafy vegetables have kept their retail prices unchanged. Market surveys in two local greengrocers show that chard, spinach, arugula and broccoli trade at the same levels as in previous weeks. Only lettuce has risen sharply, with the capuchina variety climbing from about 15,000 to 25,000 Argentine pesos per basket in one shop, and another store reporting a jump from 3,000 to 6,900 pesos.

Suppliers say the cold slows the growth cycle, extending lettuce harvest time from roughly 45 days in summer to 70 days in winter, which temporarily reduces availability and pushes up price. The producer emphasized that the frosts do not damage crops and that the situation is normal for the season, expecting prices to stabilise as harvests resume.

Overall supply remains regular, with deliveries to stores every two days, and the rest of the green‑leaf market shows no sign of shortage or loss.
