Rosario trial begins for driver accused of killing mother and daughter

The oral trial against Agustín López Gagliasso began on Monday in Rosario, Argentina. Gagliasso is accused of causing the deaths of Tania Gandolfi and her daughter, Agustina García, during a vehicular incident in January 2025.

According to the prosecution, the defendant was driving a Peugeot 206 at speeds exceeding 120 km/h—more than double the limit—when he lost control and struck the family on the Rosario waterfront. Investigators determined that Gagliasso had consumed alcohol prior to the crash. Evidence, including security footage, suggests he was involved in a dispute with a motorcyclist shortly before the impact and accelerated to pursue the vehicle.

The prosecution is seeking an 18-year prison sentence and a 10-year disqualification from driving. Gagliasso faces charges of simple homicide with ‘dolo eventual’ (eventual intent) and minor injuries with eventual intent. The trial is being overseen by judges Silvana Lamas González, Valeria Pedrana, and Paula Álvarez.
