Argentina legislators debate economic emergency for police pension fund

Myriam Martínez, president of the Social Security Commission No. 5, announced that the legislative process regarding a bill to declare an economic and financial emergency for the Provincial Pension Fund for Police and Penitentiary Personnel will continue. To advance the project, a joint meeting will be held with the Budget Commission No. 2.

During a meeting attended by provincial entity directors and retired beneficiaries, Martínez described the current situation as complex. She noted that while the proposed regulatory framework may not solve every issue, passing it into law would provide the equilibrium necessary to project a sustainable pension system for both current beneficiaries and future retirees.

Martínez attributed the current structural problems to past public policies that implemented temporary solutions rather than addressing long-term systemic issues. She emphasized the importance of respecting acquired rights for territorial retirees, provincial retirees, and pensioners.
