Argentina sees sweeping August 2026 price hikes in transport, fuel and tolls
In August 2026 Argentina implemented a series of price increases that affect daily life and commerce. Public transport fares in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area rose 3.9 % for city services and 4.4 % for the province, while train tickets saw a 10.5 % jump, with the minimum fare moving from 380 pesos to 420 pesos. Utilities also climbed: water tariffs (AySA) increased 3 %, the average household bill reached 35 940.69 pesos; natural‑gas prices rose 2.99 % nationwide and electricity rates in the AMBA went up 1.8 %.
Road users faced higher tolls as the Rosario–Santa Fe highway introduced a 33 % increase on 1 August. The trunk toll for cars became 4 000 pesos (manual) and the access toll 1 500 pesos, with a 20 % discount for TelePASE users. Fuel taxes were adjusted by 0.75 %, adding roughly 11 pesos per litre of gasoline in Rosario. The government also raised biocombustible prices, setting biodiesel at a 4 % higher minimum of 2 001 063 pesos per ton and increasing bioethanol by 1.75 % to 973.244 pesos per litre.
The freight sector reported rising costs as the cargo‑transport cost index rose 2.25 % in July, marking a 25 % cumulative increase for the first seven months of 2026. These combined adjustments place additional pressure on consumers and businesses across the country.
