Argentina logs record turnout for 2026 marathon and Bonaerenses games

More than 4,000 runners registered for the San Juan Bautista Marathon 2026, the traditional race in Varela that will start at 10 a.m. on Sunday 5 July after being postponed because of weather. Municipal authorities highlighted the event’s role in promoting community health, with Secretary of Culture, Sports and Recreation Estefanía Nieva noting the free, wellness‑focused activities, and Mayor Andrés Watson stressing the city’s commitment to public well‑being.

In Quilmes, the local stage of the Juegos Bonaerenses 2026 began with over 15,000 participants competing in a range of disciplines at the Reinaldo Gorno Sports Center and other venues. Interim Mayor Eva Mieri attended the opening, praising the event’s ability to foster friendship and solidarity across neighborhoods. The games featured athletics, special‑needs football, and many other sports, reinforcing Quilmes’ status as one of the province’s most active districts.
