Argentina loses $70 million daily to infrastructure decay
Argentina is facing significant economic losses due to the progressive deterioration of its water and sanitation infrastructure. According to a diagnosis by the Cámara Argentina de la Construcción (CAMARCO), the country loses approximately $25 billion annually—equivalent to $70 million per day—as a result of the wear and lack of maintenance in essential assets such as roads, ports, energy, and sanitary networks.
Technical analysis reveals that the replacement value for the nation's water and sanitation infrastructure exceeds $156 billion, yet its current value has depreciated to just $60.4 billion, representing a 60% loss in capital. Specialist Jorge Núñez noted that 65% of the served population relies on systems that have already exceeded their useful lifespan. Experts warn that the systematic postponement of conservation works in favor of short-term, high-visibility projects is multiplying future costs and creating an intergenerational burden.
