Argentina maize campaign faces water and pest challenges
The 2026/27 maize campaign in Argentina is facing several critical challenges, including water availability concerns in western Buenos Aires and caution in the NOA and NEA regions. Producers are closely monitoring weather conditions and the impact of the corn stunt complex caused by Spiroplasma.
Recent monitoring indicates a significant decrease in the adult population of the corn leafhopper (Dalbulus maidis), which is viewed as a positive sign for the upcoming season. However, experts emphasize that long-term management strategies—including the use of tolerant materials, controlling volunteer corn, appropriate planting dates, and rational insecticide use—remain essential to mitigate sanitary risks.
The 5th International Maize Congress (CIM) is scheduled to take place on September 30 and October 1 at the Córdoba Convention Center to address these evolving agricultural dynamics.
