Argentina expands senior programs during Día del Amigo celebrations

On July 18, provincial authorities in Tierra del Fuego organized free, all‑night events for people over 60 in Rio Grande and Tolhuin, featuring music, dancing, costume contests and a buffet as part of the Día del Amigo celebration. In Rosario, the municipal government launched the “Club de los Grandes,” a new community for residents aged 65 and over, offering concerts, karaoke, sports discounts and a credential‑issuing desk during the city’s Friendship Festival. In Tartagal, the Salta province’s Secretariat for Older Persons completed registration for the “Casa Propia – Casa Activa” housing complex, receiving 25 applications—most of them men—and will evaluate candidates in late July. Governor Sergio Ziliotto attended the inauguration of an expansion at the Villa Mirasol seniors’ residence, adding six new beds and announcing provincial support for a future multi‑purpose hall. Together, these initiatives aim to promote active aging, reduce social isolation and improve living conditions for older Argentines across several provinces.
