Argentina declares July 9‑10 holiday and launches nationwide Independence Day events

The Argentine government confirmed that Thursday, July 9, 2026, remains an immutable national holiday marking the anniversary of the 1816 Declaration of Independence. A resolution (164/2025) also designated Friday, July 10, as a non‑working day for tourism, creating a three‑day weekend intended to boost domestic travel.

Labor rules differ for the two days: work performed on the July 9 holiday must be paid at double the regular rate, while work on the optional bridge day of July 10 is compensated at the standard rate.

Cultural institutions across Buenos Aires have organized free programs for families. The Museo Histórico Saavedra will host workshops, folk‑dance shows, flag‑making and historical tours. The Casa de Tucumán will hold a “Conversatorio Federal 9 de Julio” featuring scholars and a federal‑themed festival, including a live broadcast of an Argentina‑Egypt World Cup match. The Argentine Army, Navy and Air Force will present a Festival of Military Bands at the Campo Argentino de Polo in Palermo, combining ceremonial music, equestrian displays and historic gun salutes.
