Argentina migration trends show declining foreign residents and professional hurdles abroad

Recent data and personal testimonies highlight shifting migration patterns involving Argentina. Government data from RENAPER indicates a decline in the foreign population residing in Argentina, with a decrease of over 100,000 foreign residents compared to two years ago. As of 2024, there are approximately 2.47 million foreign residents in the country, with Paraguayans and Bolivians forming the largest demographic groups.

Simultaneously, Argentine professionals migrating to Europe face significant hurdles. Journalist Caro Siri, currently living in Barcelona, has warned that professional experience gained in the Americas, Asia, or Africa may not be recognized in the Spanish labor market. She noted that many professionals struggle to find work related to their expertise due to the difficulty of degree validation and a preference for European-based experience, though exceptions exist in fields such as engineering and programming.
