Argentina mining exports reach record US$4.74 billion in H1 2026
Argentine mining exports reached a record US$4.742 billion in the first half of 2026, marking a nearly 75% increase compared to the US$2.712 billion recorded during the same period in 2025. This growth represents a significant jump from the previous record set in 2011, when exports were approximately US$2.26 billion.
Gold remains the primary export, accounting for roughly 61% of the total value. While gold and silver exports were bolstered by high international prices, actual production volumes for these metals faced challenges. In contrast, lithium has significantly altered the sector's profile, with export values rising by 185% and volumes increasing by 68%, even amidst falling lithium prices.
In addition to export growth, the sector saw a historic peak in Foreign Direct Investment, reaching US$24.849 billion in March 2026. While total mined production grew by 8.4%, analysts note that the export surge is driven heavily by price fluctuations and the lithium boom rather than a uniform increase across all minerals, as large copper projects are not yet in production.
