Argentina mining sector projects 65,000 new jobs by 2033
The Argentine mining industry is projected to create approximately 65,000 new jobs by 2033, according to estimates presented in connection with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. This figure includes at least 11,000 direct positions during mining operations and an additional 54,000 indirect jobs in sectors such as logistics, transport, commerce, and services.
Industry experts warn of a significant skills gap, noting that over 80% of direct roles will require medium to high-level qualifications. To address this, Universidad Siglo 21 and Grupo Revolution have introduced more than 90 training proposals, including certifications and technical degrees, through an agreement with the IFC.
The shortage of specialized labor is already impacting specific projects. For instance, representatives from the Los Azules copper project in San Juan indicated a need to bring in Finnish technicians to install a sulfuric acid plant, though they emphasized that contracts should include training for Argentine workers to ensure knowledge transfer.
