Argentina mining sector surges under President Milei
Gold, silver, copper, molybdenum and lithium projects in Argentina have reported major progress in recent months, signalling a rapid expansion of the country's mining industry under President Javier Milei.
The Ministry of Mining in Mendoza approved the acquisition of almost 10,000 hectares of the El Salado and La Quimera properties by a subsidiary of Argentina Metals, greatly expanding the firm’s land base in a key copper district. In June the company listed shares on both the TSX‑Venture and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, and recruited senior executives such as former Codelco Brazil director Enrique Reichhard as Vice‑President of Exploration, along with technical advisers from Hercules Metals and Argenta Silver.
Milei’s recent RIGI legislation is attracting foreign investors, a strategy aimed at curbing inflation, stabilising the peso and restoring access to bond markets. Multiple explorers, including Unico Silver, have disclosed promising drilling results – for example, 52.3 metres averaging 378 g/t silver equivalent – across Chile‑style mineralised zones in Santa Cruz.
Industry reports collectively show that high‑grade mineralised zones are abundant, confirming that the mining boom is real and integral to Argentina’s broader economic turnaround plan.
