Argentina: Government to close 72 vehicle registration offices

The Argentine government has ordered the operational closure of 72 vehicle registration offices across various provinces, including Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos, Chaco, and San Luis. This measure, formalized through Resolution 538/2026 by the Ministry of Justice under Minister Juan Bautista Mahiques, aims to implement the National Plan for Digitalization and Integral Reorganization of the Automotive Registry System.

The plan involves the suppression of 67 offices and the operational closure of five others previously slated for elimination. The National Directorate of Motor Vehicle Property Registries and Pledge Credits (DNRPA) has been granted 60 business days to complete the process, which includes redistributing files and domains to remaining active offices to ensure service continuity.

Many of the affected locations are specialized registries for agricultural, road, and industrial machinery, as well as pledge credits. The government states the reorganization seeks to simplify management, increase efficiency, and facilitate the total digitalization of automotive procedures to reduce bureaucratic burdens and costs for citizens.
