Argentina moves forward with new community sports centres in Lanús and Neuquén

The municipal government of Lanús, Buenos Aires Province, is advancing construction of a new sports complex in the La Maquinita neighbourhood of Gerli. After demolishing abandoned houses, crews are cleaning and leveling the site to install multi‑sport courts, five‑a‑side football fields, beach volleyball areas, new sidewalks, lighting, landscaping and other urban equipment. The project is part of Mayor Julián Álvarez’s commitment to expand quality public spaces while he presses the national government to reactivate a long‑awaited housing plan.

In Neuquén Province, the provincial government has issued a public tender to build the San Patricio del Chañar Community Sports Centre. The work, budgeted at 4.68 billion Argentine pesos and scheduled for completion within 12 months, will include a 1,500 m² covered building with a multipurpose hall, flexible space, kitchen, administration offices, restrooms and a 400‑person retractable metal stand, plus outdoor courts, ramps, parking and landscaping. The centre is one of eight community sports facilities being constructed across the province under Governor Rolando Figueroa’s infrastructure program.
