Argentina moves to remove Federal Judge Cristina Pozzer Penzo
Union leader Julio Piumato, head of the Justice Employees Union, criticised Federal Judge Cristina Pozzer Penzo for alleged labor mistreatment, irregularities in smuggling cases and a controversial handling of the disappearance investigation of child Loan Peña. He said the Council of the Magistracy’s Accusation Commission has scheduled an investigative hearing for August, a step that could lead to formal charges.
Gustavo Vera of the La Alameda organization echoed the criticism, calling the judge “absolutely inoperative” and highlighting procedural failures during the early stages of the Loan Peña search, including missed alerts and inadequate coordination among police and judicial officials. Vera also noted that key witnesses and officials have not been summoned, further undermining confidence in the judge’s performance.
