Argentina sees wave of labor protests over wages, layoffs and budget cuts

Around 500 municipal employees in Comodoro Rivadavia marched to reject a proposed 3 % non‑remunerative salary increase and called for a new wage offer, saying the plan does not keep pace with the regional cost of living.

Road workers from the National Directorate of Roads gathered at the Ruta 16 toll plaza in Chaco, accompanied by unions from several provinces, to denounce severe budget cuts, the diversion of fuel‑tax funds and the threatened transfer of national roads to provinces. They warned that the lack of maintenance endangers connectivity and regional production.

Self‑organised workers from the Granja Tres Arroyos poultry plant staged a protest on Ruta 14, demanding the reopening of the Concepción del Uruguay facility and warning that its closure threatens hundreds of jobs in the area.

In Resistencia, the CGT of Chaco, together with the two CTA federations, the teachers’ union and indigenous groups, held a mass march, collecting food for local communities while demanding the restoration of collective agreements, salary adjustments and a functioning provincial labor department.

Former employees of transport company Expreso Brío demonstrated in front of its Rosario plant, condemning the dismissal of about 60 workers and alleging unpaid salaries, bonuses and indemnities.

The national CGT, alongside the CTA and UTEP, announced a schedule of four coordinated actions from late July to August, including protests at the Ministry of Economy and the possibility of a general strike if government reforms on labor law continue.
