Argentina municipal workers' unions threaten strike over unpaid salaries

Ignacio Donna, secretary general of the municipal workers' union ASTEOM, said many municipal employees are in a "critical moment" because overtime payments are delayed by five to six biweekly periods and have been frozen for more than a year. He noted that the promised conversion of temporary staff to permanent positions, agreed for June, has not yet been decreed. Donna warned that the union will begin forceful measures if the executive does not issue a call before Monday.

The state workers' union ATE in San Luis issued a warning that it will launch a plan of struggle in the municipality of Villa de Merlo if July salaries are not paid within the next 24 hours. The union highlighted that Merlo has one of the lowest municipal salaries in the province and that municipal authorities have failed to deposit the wages. ATE pledged to support any actions taken by the affected workers.
