Argentina municipalities crack down on illegal waste, impose fines and seize trucks

In the city of Córdoba, two individuals were fined 8.228 million Argentine pesos and had a Ford F‑100 seized after surveillance cameras captured them dumping tires and other waste illegally in the Villa El Libertador neighbourhood. Municipal environmental courts opened a criminal case and ordered the vehicle's seizure, while the local government highlighted stricter enforcement under newer environmental regulations.

Meanwhile, the municipality of Sauce Viejo announced that, starting 1 August, residents will be prohibited from leaving pruning debris, branches and other vegetation waste on streets. The measure, presented as a response to expected heavy rains from the El Niño phenomenon, redirects municipal crews to flood‑prevention work. Violators may face fines, although the city council says the existing ordinance has not been formally changed and will request clarification from the executive branch.

Both actions illustrate a broader push by Argentine local authorities to curb illegal dumping and improve public‑space cleanliness ahead of seasonal weather risks.
