Argentina names Romero captain; Trump promises $5,000 if Republicans win

Argentina has appointed Cristian Romero as the new captain of the national football team following the departure of Lionel Messi and Nicolas Otamendi. The Argentine Football Association (AFA) confirmed that the 28-year-old Atletico Madrid defender will take over the leadership role under coach Lionel Scaloni.

Romero has previous experience leading the team, having captained Argentina in three occasions during World Cup qualifiers and friendlies. Scaloni chose Romero over other veteran players like Emiliano Martinez and Nicolas Tagliafico to lead the squad into the post-Messi era.

In the United States, Donald Trump has promised to provide $5,000 to every adult citizen if the Republican Party wins control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the upcoming November elections. Speaking at a convention in Dallas, Texas, Trump stated that this payout would be made possible by the nation's economic strength, with the condition that the funds must be spent within the United States.

During his speech, Trump criticized Democratic opponents and asserted that his first two years in office were the most successful in presidential history, while warning of the consequences should Democrats regain control of Congress.
