Argentina national team eyes domestic friendly matches in Córdoba and Buenos Aires

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) is preparing a potential schedule for the upcoming FIFA international window in late September and early October. Preliminary plans suggest the national team could play three friendly matches within Argentina, potentially hosted in Córdoba and Buenos Aires.

Proposed matches include fixtures against Bolivia and Burkina Faso in Córdoba, followed by a match against Benin at the Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires. This domestic schedule has gained traction as an alternative to a previously considered tour of China.

The official announcement of opponents and venues has been delayed as the AFA awaits a resolution from FIFA regarding whether these matches will be classified as ‘Class A’ friendlies. This classification is critical for players Leandro Paredes, Nahuel Molina, and Thiago Almada, who are currently serving suspensions following incidents after the 2026 World Cup final. FIFA has indicated that these sanctions can be served during Class A friendlies or official matches, making the match category essential for the players' eligibility.
