Argentina observes National Park Ranger Day

Argentina commemorates National Park Ranger Day on October 9, honoring the professionals dedicated to biodiversity conservation and the protection of natural and cultural heritage.

The date marks the 1934 enactment of Law No. 12.103, which established the former Directorate of National Parks, the predecessor to the current National Parks Administration. This legislation laid the foundation for the country's protected areas system, specifically establishing the Iguazú National Park in Misiones and Nahuel Huapi National Park in the Patagonia region.

Historically, the first park rangers were often local residents with deep knowledge of the terrain, possessing essential skills in navigation, animal handling, and survival in isolated areas. The day serves as a tribute to the ongoing work of these custodians in managing and protecting national territories.
