Argentina faces political tension over PASO reforms and energy subsidies
Argentina is facing significant political tension regarding potential electoral reforms and energy subsidies. Santa Fe Governor Maximiliano Pullaro has expressed support for suspending the national Primarias Abiertas, Simultáneas y Obligatorias (PASO), citing high state costs and infrequent use. He maintains that the primary system remains a useful tool within Santa Fe province. This stance is echoed by Deputy Gisela Scaglia, whose support is seen as vital for the national government's legislative goals.
In response, federal Peronist leaders, organized under the Grupo Marechal, have issued a strong rejection of the proposal to eliminate the PASO. They argue that such a move would undermine democratic representation and benefit the current administration through secret negotiations with certain governors.
Simultaneously, a legislative dispute has emerged within the Radical party over the 'Zona Fría' (Cold Zone) law. Deputy Karina Banfi has criticized Senator Eduardo Vischi for supporting a reform that would redistribute natural gas subsidies, arguing it creates territorial inequalities by favoring Patagonia over regions like Bahía Blanca.
Meanwhile, political leaders are also navigating discussions regarding the 2027 Budget and upcoming provincial meetings to coordinate legislative agendas.
