Tierra del Fuego officials visit to accelerate Integrated Naval Base construction
Argentine officials, including Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno and Defense Minister Carlos Presti, are traveling to Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, to inspect and accelerate the construction of the Integrated Naval Base. The project, which saw progress stall during the first year of the current administration, is intended to serve as a logistical, operational, and scientific hub for the South Atlantic and Antarctica rather than a combat-oriented facility.
The total estimated investment for the base ranges between USD 400 million and USD 500 million. The government views this infrastructure as a strategic priority to strengthen national presence in the region. The high-level delegation includes military leaders and legislators from the La Libertad Avanza party to demonstrate institutional support.
In a related move, the government announced new sanctions against 15 international companies operating without authorization in the Malvinas. This action aligns with a broader strategic shift by the administration to emphasize national interest and sovereignty regarding resources and territory in the South Atlantic.
