Argentina oilseed industry faces stalled wage talks and looming strike
Negotiations between the Cámara de la Industria Aceitera (CIARA‑CEC) and the oilseed workers’ unions (FTC IO Dy ARA and SOEA) ended without a deal as the mandatory conciliation period expired on 24 June 2026. The industry offered a monthly increase of 15,000 pesos, which the unions rejected, insisting on a salary that meets the constitutionally‑mandated Salario Mínimo Vital y Móvil of about 2.80 million pesos. Union leaders warned that the sector could enter an indefinite strike if a satisfactory agreement is not reached.
The parties have agreed to resume dialogue on 25 June, but no new offer has been presented. The dispute centres on the gap between the employers’ proposal and the workers’ demand for a salary increase that the unions say could be financed with just 0.1 % of the industry’s annual turnover. The stalemate raises the risk of nationwide work stoppages in the oilseed sector, a key exporter for Argentina.
