Argentina opens citrus exports to Panama

Argentina has secured access to the Panamanian market for citrus exports following an agreement between Argentina’s National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality (SENASA) and Panama’s Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA). The phytosanitary requirements for the import of fresh or refrigerated lemons, mandarins, oranges, and grapefruits have been officially published in Panama’s Official Gazette.

Panama represents a significant potential market for Argentine agro-industry. In 2025, Panama imported approximately USD 3.6 million in fresh or dried oranges and USD 3.9 million in mandarins, primarily sourced from Peru, Chile, Spain, the United States, and Colombia.

The Northwest Argentine Citrus Association (Acnoa) welcomed the news, noting that technical negotiations led by SENASA have been ongoing since 2019. The agreement is seen as a strategic move to diversify Argentina’s export destinations and strengthen its international agro-industrial presence.
