Dominican Republic launches billion‑peso remodel of Hospital Salvador B. Gautier

The National Health Service (SNS) of the Dominican Republic began the first phase of a comprehensive renovation of Hospital Salvador B. Gautier in Santo Domingo. The project, valued at nearly one billion Dominican pesos, is planned in three stages and will keep the hospital operating throughout construction.

Phase 1 will add a new emergency department with more than 30 equipped beds, a modern trauma‑shock unit with four beds, triage, a laboratory, and imaging services including a CT scanner, X‑ray, sonography, a hyperbaric chamber and two operating rooms for urgent procedures. Additional works will upgrade laboratories, consultation rooms, surgery suites, surgical intensive‑care areas and the surrounding environment. The initiative is presented as part of President Luis Abinader’s pledge to strengthen the public health network, with contingency plans to route patients to other public hospitals while works proceed.
