Argentina to rotate squad, likely field Messi, in group match vs Jordan

Argentina have already secured the top spot in Group J of the 2026 World Cup after a 2‑0 win over Austria. The final group game against debutants Jordan in Dallas is therefore a low‑stakes fixture. Coach Lionel Scaloni said he will use the match to rotate the side, giving minutes to players who have not yet featured. Options being discussed include starting goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez or Gerónimo Rulli, a back line of Gonzalo Montiel, Nicolás Tagliafico, Nicolás Otamendi and either Marcos Senesi or Facundo Medina, and a midfield that could feature Leandro Paredes, Exequiel Palacios, Giovani Lo Celso and youngster Valentin Barco. In attack, Julian Álvarez is expected to start, with José Manuel López or Giuliano Simeone on the wings. Messi is expected to play, possibly for only part of the game to stay sharp while avoiding fatigue. Up to seven Argentine players could make their World Cup debut, including Rulli, Barco, Lo Celso and others. Jordan, already eliminated, will likely also field a rotated side.
