Argentina police seize 7.5 kg of coca leaves and conduct wide road‑safety checks

Police and Gendarmería officers seized about 7.5 kg of natural coca leaves during a vehicle inspection at the Capital road checkpoint, after detecting a strong odor in two Andesmar long‑distance buses coming from Jujuy to Mendoza. The leaves were confiscated under customs law and the buses continued their routes.

In a separate operation on National Route 22 in the Alto Valle region of Río Negro, police identified 56 people and inspected 52 vehicles over several checkpoints. The deployment included drug‑sniffing dogs, specialized toxicology units and traffic safety officers, and concluded without incidents. Both actions are part of ongoing preventive measures aimed at curbing illicit trafficking and improving road safety.
