Argentina: Poll shows majority support for national control of resources

A public opinion poll conducted by the consultancy Zuban Córdoba reveals significant domestic opposition to the privatization and foreign control of Argentina’s strategic resources. According to the study, 81.8% of Argentines believe that essential resources, including lithium, land, and water, should remain primarily in national hands.

The survey also highlights a preference for independent foreign policy, with 77.9% of respondents stating that Argentina should make diplomatic decisions based on its own national interests rather than automatically aligning with foreign powers. Only 19.6% favored automatic subordination to global powers.

Additionally, 74.1% of those surveyed prioritized the protection of national industry and production. These findings contrast with recent government stances, including comments from Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, who characterized the concept of national sovereignty as “outdated.”
