Argentina pork consumption soars as price gap with beef widens
Per‑capita pork consumption in Argentina rose from 6.22 kg in 2006 to 18.89 kg in 2025‑2026, a 171 % increase over two decades. The surge coincided with a sharp fall in beef consumption, which dropped to 47.3 kg per person, the lowest level in twenty years.
The price differential between beef and pork expanded to around 120 % in 2026. Beef averaged about $18,564 per kilogram while pork (pechito) cost roughly $8,944 per kilogram, making pork a considerably cheaper protein source.
