Argentina President Javier Milei meets Bayer heads at Casa Rosada
On 13 July 2026 Argentine President Javier Milei hosted senior executives from the German pharmaceutical group Bayer at the Casa Rosada. Attendees included Bayer’s Global President of the Pharmaceutical Division Stefan Oelrich, Global Director of Government Affairs Laura Diéguez Otero, and regional representatives Luciano Viglione and Horacio Oyhanarte, alongside Argentina’s Chancellor Pablo Quirno and Health Minister Mario Lugones.
The meeting focused on cooperation in research, innovation and the development of a knowledge‑based economy. Participants discussed opportunities for Argentina in health and agro‑industrial sectors, the role of private investment, and the ongoing debate over intellectual‑property protection. Bayer highlighted the importance of predictable regulatory frameworks and noted Argentina’s potential entry into the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), a step that still requires parliamentary approval.
The encounter is part of the Milei government’s broader effort to attract foreign private investment and strengthen partnerships with multinational firms in strategic areas such as medicine and agriculture.
