Argentina's President Milei Announces Plan to Turn the Country into an AI Hub
President Javier Milei said he will transform Argentina into a centre of the artificial‑intelligence industry. In a guest column for the Financial Times, he argued that AI will free people from the limits of the human brain and boost productivity. The government plans legislation that would keep AI largely unregulated and introduce a new corporate category for firms controlled by AI agents, accompanied by a low corporate‑tax rate to attract investment.
Milei also noted a recent meeting with US investor Peter Thiel, co‑founder of PayPal and Palantir, who has been spending time in Buenos Aires and reportedly bought a house there. The proposals aim to make Buenos Aires the AI equivalent of Amsterdam during the age of seafaring.
The initiative seeks to position Argentina as an attractive destination for AI‑driven businesses and to spur economic growth through a liberal regulatory environment.
