Argentina President Milei Accuses Brazil of Funding Anti‑Argentina Campaign
A poll conducted by the political consultancy Trepuntozero surveyed 1,000 Argentines (margin of error ±3.2%) and found that 79.1% believe an organized “anti‑Argentina” campaign exists. Respondents cited envy of recent football successes—Copa América titles in 2021 and 2024 and the 2022 World Cup win—as the main motive (35.2%). The majority see England as the biggest “hater” (27% of blame), while Brazil ranks sixth with 7.1%.
President Javier Milei has publicly alleged that the Brazilian government financed the campaign, claiming 25% of the resources came from Brazil, and also named Mexico and U.S. Democrats as contributors without evidence. He criticized his own administration’s response as poor, arguing the alleged campaign hurts Argentina’s image amid the World Cup.
