Javier Milei highlights Vaca Muerta growth at AOG Patagonia 2026

President Javier Milei attended the opening of the Argentina Oil & Gas (AOG) Patagonia 2026 exhibition in Neuquén. During his speech, he highlighted the expansion of the Vaca Muerta formation, noting that production in the area has more than doubled compared to 2023. He stated that national oil production reached 932,000 barrels per day in August 2026, approaching the one-million-barrel milestone and surpassing the 1998 record.

Milei attributed the increase in energy exports and production to his administration's deregulation policies, specifically citing the removal of the 'barril criollo' via DNU 70/23. He also defended the Régimen de Incentivo para Grandes Inversiones (RIGI), describing it as a vital tool for generating employment and foreign currency.

In a controversial segment of his address, the President dismissed claims regarding the economic hardships of citizens, specifically criticizing the phrase that many Argentines cannot make it to the end of the month. He characterized such statements as 'pelotudez' (nonsense) and accused the opposition and certain media outlets of using the narrative as a political operation.
