Argentina private-sector employment falls for 14th consecutive month
Argentina's formal private-sector employment has declined for 14 consecutive months. According to data from the Integrated Social Security System (SIPA), the sector lost 12,716 jobs in July, a 0.2% monthly decrease. Since the administration of Javier Milei took office in November 2023, the private sector has seen a cumulative loss of approximately 265,765 formal jobs.
Sectoral analysis shows that construction led the declines with a 0.6% drop, followed by financial intermediation (-0.4%), manufacturing, commerce, transport, and hospitality, which all saw 0.3% decreases. Conversely, the mining, fishing, and utility sectors recorded slight monthly increases.
Regional data highlights significant disparities. Santa Fe has lost 21,700 registered private-sector jobs since December 2023. In Formosa, labor informality remains high, with rates reported between 50% and 54%.
Nationally, the labor informality rate rose to 45% in the second quarter of 2026. While the public sector saw a slight increase of 4,723 jobs in July, the overall trend for formal employment remains downward, reaching its lowest level in 52 months with 6,106,800 salaried workers.
