The Cruz Roja Mexican delegation in Tijuana opened a new blood bank, a state‑of‑the‑art 128‑slice tomograph and an advanced operating room, investing 23 million pesos. The tomograph cuts patient radiation and speeds scans by about 50 percent, while the operating room features 4K monitors, harmonic scalpels and enhanced safety systems. The upgraded blood bank can store plasma for up to a year, and officials said the expansion will not raise patient fees. Hospital officials also urged the community to donate blood altruistically, not only when a relative needs a transfusion.

At the same time, blood‑donation drives were held in several Latin American locales. In Arica, Chile, the Hospital Regional de Arica partnered with the Chilean Army’s Regimiento Rancagua, where 54 soldiers volunteered to donate blood to reinforce the regional blood centre’s reserves. In Salta, Argentina, the City Council hosted a voluntary collection inside the council building, aiming to make regular donation a habit and address critical shortages. The Faculty of Applied Sciences to Industry (FCAI) in Argentina organized another drive together with Hospital Schestakow and the Argentine Red Cross, inviting students, staff and local residents to donate. All these initiatives seek to strengthen blood supplies for surgeries, emergencies and chronic treatments across the region.
