Argentina proposes fast‑track eviction law with heavy fines for dishonest landlords

A draft law in Argentina aims to accelerate eviction proceedings. It would allow owners to seek immediate court‑ordered removal of tenants when a lease expires or rent is unpaid, without waiting for the usual notice period, provided the owner posts a judicial bond to cover potential damages.

The proposal includes severe penalties for landlords who provide false information to obtain an eviction. Judges could impose fines of up to ten times the last month's rent in favor of the affected tenant. It also modernises the process by permitting electronic notifications to tenants and authorising the use of public force to enforce court orders. Additional safeguards address illegal occupiers and vulnerable renters, requiring courts to decide certain requests within five days.
