Argentina proposes legal framework for autonomous vehicles
Legislators in Argentina have introduced a bill to establish a comprehensive legal framework for autonomous vehicles. The initiative, proposed by members of the PRO bloc, seeks to adapt existing laws to accommodate automated driving technology.
The project proposes modifications to the Insurance Law to differentiate risks based on driving modes and ensure victim compensation even in the absence of a human driver. It also aims to establish mechanisms for manufacturers and developers to be held liable, while incorporating regulations for “black boxes,” cyber risks, and specific reinsurance regimes.
This legislative effort follows a 2025 decree that introduced various levels of driving automation into the Argentine transit regime, aiming to resolve outstanding questions regarding civil liability, insurance coverage, and accident management.
