Argentina proposes mandatory financial education in secondary schools

Argentine National Deputy Diógenes González, supported by legislators from the Radical Civic Union (UCR), has introduced a bill to make financial education a mandatory component of the secondary school curriculum nationwide.

The proposal seeks to amend the National Education Law (No. 26.206) to include the acquisition of skills necessary for the responsible management of personal economic and financial resources. The curriculum would cover money management, personal finance, and the rights of users within the financial system to ensure students can use banking and non-banking services in an informed manner.

Specific objectives of the initiative include promoting saving habits, encouraging responsible management of accounts and debt, providing knowledge on credit and the functioning of the financial system, expanding financial inclusion, and stimulating entrepreneurship. The bill's proponents argue that the increasing complexity of financial markets requires students to have tools to evaluate credit offers and plan savings from an early age.
