Argentina prosecutors allege money laundering scheme involving Kirchner family
In the Hotesur and Los Sauces trials, prosecutors have described a mechanism allegedly used by Cristina Kirchner and her son, Máximo Kirchner, to receive money from business associates. According to the prosecution, the family used their own company to purchase or build properties, which were then rented at inflated prices to companies owned by businessmen such as Lázaro Báez and Cristóbal López.
The prosecution contends that these rental payments, allegedly funded by public works fraud and state favors, were eventually returned to the Kirchner family under the guise of loan repayments. Prosecutors stated that this process constituted a constant and permanent money laundering mechanism designed to allow the former presidential family to enjoy illicit funds.
Separately, legal proceedings continue regarding the seizure of assets following Cristina Kirchner’s conviction for fraudulent administration. While the Supreme Court has upheld the updated amount of approximately 684.9 billion pesos to be recovered, the actual execution of asset auctions remains pending as the judiciary awaits further definitions.
