Argentina public sector jobs decrease by over 72,000 under Milei
Since the beginning of the La Libertad Avanza administration in December 2023, Argentina has seen a significant reduction in public sector employment. Data from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) indicates that public jobs decreased from 341,465 in December 2023 to 269,025 in August, representing a total loss of over 72,000 positions.
In August alone, the public sector lost 1,446 jobs, a 0.5% contraction compared to July and a 5.8% decrease compared to August of the previous year. The most significant reduction occurred in ‘other entities,’ which saw a 2.9% drop. The Minister of Deregulation and Transformation of the State, Federico Sturzenegger, has acknowledged these cumulative figures through official reports.
