Argentina pursues US nuclear pact as Chile approves vandalism registry

In Argentina, the government is working to sign a new nuclear cooperation agreement with the United States before the end of the year. This new pact, referred to as an ‘Agreement 123’, aims to replace the current convention that has been in place since 1997 and is set to expire in 2027. Technical teams have reportedly finalized the text, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently coordinating with Washington to finalize the signing. The agreement establishes the legal framework for the transfer of nuclear technology, equipment, and materials for civilian use, rather than being a direct purchase of a reactor.

In Chile, the Security Commission has approved a bill proposed by the Executive branch to establish a Registry of Vandalism and Incivilities. The proposal passed with seven votes in favor, five against, and one abstention. The project will now move into a phase where lawmakers can submit specific modifications or indications, with a deadline set for August 21. The initiative seeks to create a formal record of acts of vandalism and incivility within the country.
