Argentina moves to renegotiate nearly 800 collective labor agreements

Argentina's Ministry of Labor has issued formal notices to employers and unions to renegotiate 446 collective bargaining agreements under the new Labor Modernization Law (Law 27.802). The government announced that, starting next week, company‑level agreements will also be included, raising the total number of contracts slated for renegotiation to almost 800.

The law eliminates the previous "ultraactivity" rule for obligational clauses, meaning that once a collective agreement expires, its mandatory provisions lapse unless a new pact is reached. The Ministry intends to update agreements across a wide range of sectors, including automotive, banking, construction, energy, transport, and even television, to align working conditions with current economic realities.

Employers and unions are urged to negotiate in good faith and submit the revised agreements to the Ministry for approval, ensuring they comply with the legal framework.
