Argentina raises wholesale electricity prices, impacting Mendoza households

The Argentine national government approved an update to wholesale electricity prices that will apply to consumption recorded from 1 July. The change, set by Resolution 151/2026 of the Energy Secretariat, adjusts the reference prices for power and stabilised electricity rates until 31 July. In Mendoza, the distribution component of the tariff remains unchanged, so bill variations will reflect only the new wholesale prices.

Official estimates project an average increase of 4.5 % for all users. Residential customers, who make up about 85 % of the market, will see a modest rise of roughly 1.6 %. Households receiving the focused energy subsidy (SEF) and consuming up to 600 kWh per bimonthly period are expected to see a 1.5 % reduction, equivalent to a monthly saving of 250–800 pesos. Those above the 600 kWh threshold may face a 1.5 % increase (1,300–7,700 pesos), while non‑subsidised users could encounter a near 3 % rise (1,500–11,000 pesos). The government confirmed the continuation of residential subsidies and added an extraordinary 16.59 % bonus for SEF beneficiaries to cushion seasonal winter price pressures.
