Argentina reaches wage deals for sugar workers and Córdoba bus drivers
In Tucumán, the Federación Obrera Tucumana de la Industria Azucarera (Fotia) and the Centro Azucarero Regional de Tucumán (CART) agreed to a 30% salary increase for sugar‑industry employees. The raise will be applied in three tranches – 13% in May‑June, 10% in July and 7% in August – and is intended to remain in force until 2027. The parties aim to unify individual agreements into a single national contract pending certification by the Ministry of Labour.
Separately, in Córdoba, the Unión Tranviarios Automotor (UTA) and the Federación de Empresarios del Transporte Automotor de Pasajeros (FETAP) settled a dispute over the annual bonus (aguinaldo). The agreement guarantees full payment of the bonus to urban bus drivers, averting a threatened strike that could have halted city bus services on July 1. Both settlements were reached after intense negotiations and are expected to maintain service continuity and industrial peace in their respective sectors.
