Javier Lanari named director of Argentina's Banco Nación
The Argentine government appointed former secretary of communication and press Javier Lanari as director of Banco Nación Argentina. The appointment was formalised by Decree 618/2026, signed by President Javier Milei and Economy Minister Luis Caputo, and takes effect from 25 June 2026 to complete the legal term that ends on 4 February 2028, following the resignation of former director Gonzalo Pascual (effective 31 January 2026).
Lanari, a journalist and longtime aide to former communications chief Manuel Adorni, left the Casa Rosada in June 2026 before assuming the bank role. Government spokesperson Adrián Ravier defended the selection, stating “No veo problema en eso” and saying the decision follows the bank’s own criteria. Opposition deputies criticised the move as political patronage, questioning Lanari’s qualifications for the country’s largest state bank.
The decree also thanked Pascual for his service and confirmed the continuity of the bank’s board under the new administration.
