Argentina records 430 human trafficking convictions since 2009

Since 2009, Argentina has issued 430 convictions for human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, according to data from the Office for the Prevention and Punishment of Human Trafficking and Exploitation of Persons (PROTEX).

Of the 852 individuals convicted in these cases, 61.9% are men. The investigations have identified 1,856 victims, consisting of 695 Argentine nationals and 450 foreign nationals. Recent data shows 21 convictions in 2025 and eight in the beginning of 2026.

PROTEX officials noted that while traditional exploitation methods persist, new forms of trafficking are emerging through social media and digital platforms. These tools are being used for initial contact, victim control, and the commercialization of sexual content. In April 2025, the country recorded its first conviction for human trafficking involving exploitation through digital media.
