Argentina reports record July trade surplus and rising reserves

Argentina recorded a historic trade surplus of USD 2,115 million in July 2026, the highest for that month in the recorded series. This result was driven by exports reaching USD 8,854 million, a 14.1% year-on-year increase. In the first seven months of 2026, total exports grew by 22.9% compared to the previous year. The energy and fuel sector was a primary driver, with exports in this category surging by 97.8% year-on-year.

Simultaneously, imports decreased by 1.7% to USD 6,739 million. Other notable sectors included industrial manufactures, which grew by 11.2%, and agricultural manufactures, which rose by 4.9%.

On the monetary front, the Central Bank of the Republic of Argentina (BCRA) reported that international reserves reached a seven-year high, hitting USD 50,342 million. The BCRA has maintained a consistent buying trend in the exchange market to bolster these reserves, aiming for targets set by the economic team.
