Argentina records surge in electric car and motorcycle registrations

In the first half of the year, Santa Fe Province registered 2,531 electric and hybrid vehicles, a figure that exceeds the total recorded in the previous year and points to a new record for 2026. The city of Rosario alone accounted for 648 registrations in the first quarter, representing more than 40% of the province’s total. Growth is driven by a broader model offering, new Asian brands entering the market, and provincial tax incentives under Law 13.781, which can exempt vehicle registration fees for up to ten years.

Nationwide, motorcycle sales have also hit a record, with 511,986 units patented in the first seven months—a 41.9% increase over the same period last year and surpassing the 500,000‑unit milestone. The Association of Motor Vehicle Dealers of Argentina (ACARA) reports that Honda led the market with 15,209 units, followed by Gilera and Motomel. The boom coincides with a decline in formal employment and rising public‑transport fares, prompting many to turn to low‑cost motorcycles for work in delivery services.
